1980 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo 301 Indy Pace Car
The Basics: This is my 1980 Trans Am Turbo Indy Pace car, with a 301 turbo and a 3 speed
automatic.
I purchased the car on 1/17/05, so it is the newest car to the collection. It needs some TLC,
but it is all there.
It is a special edition car, with only 5,700 made (out of over 50,000 T/A's that year). It also is
denoted with an X in the VIN number instead of the standard W for a Trans Am. It has a lot of
great options and also some items only found in the '80 pace car.
See the bottom of this page for all the details on the car and modifications.
OK. So we had a little snow this weekend. I'll get some better shots of the car in
a few weeks - after the snow melts!
Here's some more pictures of the car now that the snow has melted . . .

Details:
- Interesting options not usually found on 2nd generation F-bodies:
cruise control, intermittent wipers, 4 wheel disc brakes, silver tinted
T-tops, embroidered door panels and seats, turbo boost lights, radio
boost switch, power windows and locks, leather wrapped steering
wheel, turbo rims painted white and glove box block off plate.
Modifications:
- After market radio (for now).
- Exhaust replaced. I, personally, like the dual chrome splitters that it
came with so they will be switched back in the future.

Above left - Front fender emblems.
Above right - The hood has a bulge offset to the drivers side to accommodate the
carburetor which is off center due to the turbo. The back of the bulge, facing the driver,
came with optional lights to tell the driver how much boost the turbo was producing. A
nice option . . .
